School Age Scholars

Summer 2019 theme is STEAM. It’s an approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

5 - 12 years

Before and After School Care with bussing is available for children attending Hermitage Elementary.

Care and Instruction for our School-agers is quite different, as far as daily lessons go--since these children are in elementary school for the main portion of the day.  We at Building Blocks know that learning never ceases and with that said, the School-agers follow a shorter, but knowledge-filled lesson plan.

Upon arrival at Building Blocks the children are given an allotted amount of time to complete their homework with teacher assistance as needed. Following homework is snack and then a planned activity is shared with the children that highlights the specific theme of the week. The planned activity includes one of the following--  art, science, math, cooking or social studies. During this time children are given the opportunity to build, share and learn new ideas with their friends and teachers. Unlike the other rooms a monthly lesson plan is not sent home, but posted on the classroom board as School-agers follows a day to day lesson plan with emphasis placed on a weekly theme.
